Social history, untold stories, nature, knitter, embroiderer, and a retired ballet teacher
I draw my inspiration from my surroundings, which may include the history of a place I visit, my family history, or the countryside where I live. I am an artist, designer, and teacher living in the Northamptonshire countryside. Since 2012, I have worked commercially designing knitting and cross-stitch patterns.
As a child living in Oxford, it made me appreciate my surroundings, embracing the architecture and the countryside that was evident in and outside of the city. As a teenager, I attended a full-time vocational ballet school in London, so my art began with the body, but as I grew older, this was soon expressed through textiles and art. My online shops are named after my Granny Grace Cox, nee de Quincey. She lived in London and worked as a Master Tailor in the West End fashion houses. She was evacuated to Deddington, Oxfordshire, in 1941 and met my Grampy. She became the local seamstress in the village of Deddington.
My knitting designs range from fair-isle knitting to using knitting stitches to create texture and colour. My patterns are designed for intermediate and advanced knitters, worked flat using two single-pointed needles.
My art explores natural hand-dyeing, incorporating embroidery, mixed media, and text. Art is an area where I can explore untold stories of the place that I live and of my ancestors. In my artwork, I can experiment freely using the inspiration that surrounds me, while using natural materials and techniques, embracing natural colours and textures.
